An Elevated Experience at Changi Airport
More than just an airport, Changi Airport is home to a fantastic variety of shopping and dining options.
Just an MRT stop away from Capri by Fraser, Changi City, is Changi Airport, one of the most consistently highly-ranked airports in the world. Being an all-encompassing entertainment hub in addition to Singapore’s main civilian airport, Changi Airport is loved by travellers and locals alike, and you can find many locals visiting the airport for some retail therapy even when they’re not catching a flight or sending a loved one abroad. If you’re up for a unique airport experience, you won’t ever be bored with the myriad of interesting things to see and do!
Changi Airport consists of four terminals and Jewel, the latest addition to the Changi Airport and a one-stop entertainment and shopping destination, all interlinked by the skytrain system for the convenience of all visitors. Therefore, whether you’re just spending the day there or waiting for your flight, you can always be sure to access the rest of the airport from wherever you are.
If you’re looking for some relaxation and fun, here’s what you can do at the airport! Visitors can stroll through the Arrival Garden in T1 and admire the dragonfly topiaries while relishing the scent of the curated floral collection. The young ones could also try their hand at woodblock rubbing and make their own little masterpieces at the art stations. But if you’re looking for more excitement, head to The Slide@T3, a 12m slide spanning 4 storeys, where you can slip down Singapore’s tallest slide and the world’s tallest slide in an airport.
True to the Singaporean culture, Changi Airport also offers retail therapy in 98 stores across the airport’s public spaces. From travel essentials and lifestyle products at MUJI To Go at T2, to sweet treats and snacks by The Cocoa Trees at T3, you’ll be sure to enjoy the retail experience when you shop at Changi Airport!
Of course, what’s a holiday destination without food? With 75 dining options to choose from, you’ll never have to walk around on an empty stomach! Their variety includes local options such as Crave at T3 and Old Street Bak Kut at T4. Don’t feel left out if you’re craving international fare- one can find Japanese cuisine in Japan Gourmet Hall Sora at T1 and T2, amongst other choices such as Indian and Western cuisine.
If you’re in transit at Changi Airport, check out some of the other exciting activities the airport has to offer! Gamers can try out the Entertainment Deck in T2 where arcade machines, PlayStations and computer games are available, in addition to a movie theatre where you can catch a show while waiting for your flight.
In T3, you can check out the Butterfly Garden and observe over 40 species of butterflies in a beautiful flower garden. Looking for something more traditional? The Heritage Zone and Peranakan Gallery in T4 will give you a brief history lesson of Singapore’s past and people.
A Not-So-Hidden Gem
But what’s better than shopping and dining options in the four terminals of Changi Airport? With even more retail and dining options, “Instagrammable” locations and an entire park on the top floor, say hello to Jewel: Changi Airport’s newest architectural marvel and a shopping and dining paradise. With its striking waterfall vortex in the middle of the building surrounded by lush greenery, as well as its modern, high-tech space and many retail outlets, Jewel elegantly combines nature appreciation and a shopping fantasy into one.
The centrepiece of Jewel is the HSBC Rain Vortex, where you can catch stunning light displays at certain timings at night. That’s not to say that the Shiseido Forest Valley isn’t equally as appealing, with lush trees and serene waters, combining Singapore’s status as a garden city and the people’s love for shopping into the novel experience of shopping in a forest. While you can appreciate the lovely view of the vortex from every floor while dining and shopping, walking through the Canopy Bridge on the topmost floor truly allows you to feel the sublime nature of the vortex. In addition to the bridge, there is a variety of family-friendly activities to enjoy on the topmost floor as well, including a Mirror Maze, the Discovery Slides and the Manulife Sky Nets.
Save some space in your bags because Jewel also boasts of a luxury shopping experience with 172 shops! From luxury clothing to essential stationery and toys to pamper your little ones, you’ll find everything you need to make your stay all the sweeter when you shop at Jewel. This incredible range of stores include a movie theatre, Asia’s first permanent Pokemon Centre out of Japan, and many international stores making their debut here in Singapore.
All that walking would certainly work up an appetite, but thankfully there’s a great selection of dining places in Jewel, too. With a 112 restaurants and stalls, there’s enough food to satisfy any epicurean! Want some local food? White Restaurant serves some tantalising local white bee hoon, while Pow Sing has classic Hainanese chicken rice. Otherwise, global favourites such as Kam’s Roast from Hong Kong and JW360° from Japan are great places to dine at as well.
Whether you’re just visiting Singapore or on a staycation away from the hustle and bustle, Changi Airport has something for everyone. Don’t miss out on this one-stop destination for entertainment, shopping and dining!
